Photographing a Wedding at My Home Church

Walking into Calvary Church that morning felt a little different. Photographing a wedding is always an honor, but photographing the marriage of friends in the church I call home is something truly special. This Calvary Church Wedding was especially meaningful because it celebrated two people whose love for Jesus shines through every part of their lives.

From the very beginning, the day carried an unmistakable sense of peace. The weather may not have looked perfect on paper, but it became a beautiful reminder that God’s plans are often better than our own. The rain stepped aside exactly when we needed it to. Gorgeous overcast skies gave us the dreamiest light for portraits. Throughout the day, the Lord faithfully wove together every detail.

Surrounded by the People They Love Most

One of my favorite parts of photographing Abigail and Josiah’s wedding was watching the people who surrounded them. They stood beside them with an incredibly large bridal party made up of their favorite people. Every bridesmaid and groomsman brought joy, encouragement, and genuine excitement to the celebration.

Their families reflected that same love. Every hug, every conversation, every laugh, and every prayer revealed how deeply they cared for one another. You didn’t have to search for that love. It filled every corner of the day.

A Calvary Church Wedding Centered on the Gospel

The ceremony became the heartbeat of this Calvary Church Wedding.

Every element pointed back to Jesus. The Gospel wasn’t simply mentioned. It shaped every part of the service. Family and friends filled the sanctuary with worship as Abigail and Josiah entered into the covenant of marriage. They celebrated not only their love for each other, but also God’s faithfulness in bringing them to this moment.

As someone who calls Calvary Church home, this part of the day meant so much to me. Photographing a Christ centered ceremony in a place that has shaped my own faith felt incredibly special.

What stood out most was the intentionality behind every decision. Nothing felt routine. Every song, every prayer, every Scripture reading, and every moment reflected Abigail and Josiah’s desire to glorify Christ. Their Calvary Church Wedding wasn’t simply beautiful. It pointed every person in the room toward the hope of the Gospel.

A Reception Filled with Meaning

The reception carried that same spirit of joy and purpose.

Abigail and Josiah shared a beautiful first dance as husband and wife. Abigail then danced with her dad while remembering the years their family spent living in Papua New Guinea. It was a sweet tribute to a season that shaped their family in so many ways.

Josiah shared an equally meaningful dance with his mom. The song had accompanied much of their journey together, making the moment especially emotional for both of them.

One of my favorite moments came just before the evening ended. Instead of closing the celebration with one last dance, Abigail and Josiah invited everyone together for worship and prayer. Friends and family surrounded them, lifting up their marriage and asking God to bless the years ahead.

It wasn’t an afterthought.

It was the perfect conclusion to a day that had consistently proclaimed the name of Jesus. From beginning to end, Christ remained at the center.

Ending the Night at Overlook Park

Guests lined the walkway for a joyful bubble exit as Abigail and Josiah said goodbye to the people they love most. Once the bubbles settled and the hugs came to an end, our entire photography team headed to Overlook Park for one last adventure.

The rain had cleared once again. The overcast skies welcomed us with the most beautiful light. We slowed the pace, stepped away from the wedding timeline, and created some of my favorite portraits of the entire day.

Those quiet moments after the celebration are something I’ll never grow tired of. The reception is over. The timeline disappears. The excitement settles. For the first time all day, a newly married couple can simply breathe. They can soak in the fact that they’re finally husband and wife and enjoy a few peaceful moments together.

If I could end every wedding day this way, I absolutely would.

A Day I Won’t Soon Forget

Photographing weddings is always a privilege, but photographing the weddings of friends is something I never take for granted. Being trusted to preserve these memories is an incredible honor. Getting to do so at my home church, surrounded by familiar faces, made this Calvary Church Wedding even more meaningful.

Abigail and Josiah, thank you for allowing me to celebrate alongside you and document one of the most important days of your lives. Your wedding reflected God’s faithfulness, the truth of the Gospel, and the joy that comes from building a marriage on the firm foundation of Christ.

I pray that, years from now, these photographs will remind you of more than a beautiful celebration. I pray they remind you of the promises you made, the people who surrounded you, and the God who faithfully brought you together. Thank you for trusting me to preserve those memories. It was a day I won’t soon forget.
