I cannot even begin to describe the joy of capturing this big day. My very first niece got married on Saturday to the love of her life, Mikey, and the day was absolutely spectacular.
I can’t help but look back and remember the very beginning of her little life. It was November of 2001, and the phone call came through that my brother and his wife were in labor, as my mom, dad, and I were en route to Nairobi International Airport to drop off my mom. She was headed to the States to meet her first grandbaby.
Karis Ann Hudson was born on November 20, the most beautiful, precious little baby in the world. I could not have been a prouder 15-year-old aunt.
But it was several months before I finally got to meet her in person. In July of 2002, my family was leaving Africa for what would become our very last time. We made the trek across the world, arriving at Philadelphia International Airport and driving from Philadelphia to Horsham, Pennsylvania.
And guess what? She was still napping.
So we waited patiently for her to wake up. When we finally walked up the steps and peeked around the corner of her bedroom, there she was, standing at the edge of her crib, little hands gripping the bars, and the biggest grin you could possibly imagine lighting up her face.
I was already in love with this little girl, but seeing her face to face for the first time melted me to my core. And ever since, Karis has held a very special and sacred place in my heart.
Over the years, she and I have become dear friends. Watching her get married this past weekend and having the incredible honor of capturing those moments behind my camera is something I will treasure forever.
The wedding took place yesterday at Whispering Oaks Vineyard, and it was truly a celebration to remember. Karis was absolutely stunning, and Mikey looked so sharp in his tuxedo. But what stood out the most was the way he looked at her, completely head over heels in love.
The weather was beautiful, with just the perfect touch of sunshine. And during portraits after the ceremony, we even had a little sprinkle of rain, just enough to bring that good luck everyone talks about.
This Whispering Oaks Vineyard Wedding offered such a charming backdrop, with its rolling hills, vineyard views, and romantic outdoor setting, it was the perfect place to begin their forever.
One of the most meaningful parts of the day was the ceremony itself. It was focused on Jesus from beginning to end. The love of Christ was woven into every moment and shared so beautifully in their vows and prayers.
Before the ceremony, Karis and Mikey shared a first touch and prayer. It was such a quiet and tender moment, filled with emotion and reverence. There was also an emotional first look between Karis and her dad that brought tears to many eyes.
They ended the ceremony with the song The Goodness of God, a perfect end to the ceremony and a beautiful beginning to their journey of life together as husband and wife.
After the ceremony, the celebration continued with a reception that was filled with so much joy, laughter, and incredible dancing. Everyone had an amazing time and the energy throughout the evening was contagious.
One of the most special moments of the reception was Karis and Mikey’s first dance. As they swayed together on the dance floor, Karis’s voice came through the speakers she had recorded herself singing their first dance song, You’re Still the One. It was such a touching surprise and an incredibly personal moment that had everyone emotional.
The celebration at this Whispering Oaks Vineyard Wedding was nothing short of magical. From heartfelt speeches to packed dance floors, the entire day was overflowing with love and excitement. There was never a dull moment, and it felt like everyone there was fully present, soaking in every second.
Karis and Mikey, congratulations. I am so unbelievably happy for you. Your day was a dream from beginning to end, and I am so excited for you as you begin this next journey together.
It was an honor to witness your love story and an even greater privilege to document it. Thank you for letting me be part of your Whispering Oaks Vineyard Wedding — I love you both more than words can say.
