A checklist is really important for all photographers on a wedding day! When I am the lead photographer for a wedding, I will make sure that on the wedding day I start out with the bride and my second shooter will get photos of the groom. When the bride and groom have all of the details together, it makes our job much easier and ensures that we don’t miss any special moments of your day!
I wanted to share with you some of the items on my “Wedding Day Details” checklist to help you think through everything that you might want to have ready for your photographer on your wedding day!
There are so many options of details that the Bride may want to have ready to include in detail photos! You will obviously want to have some of the larger items ready that are absolute necessities – the wedding dress, the rings, your shoes and any jewelry that you’re wearing (necklaces, bracelets, earrings, other rings).
You can also consider incorporating any special items that you plan on using or having with you for your wedding day. This could be items like your grandmother’s handkerchief or if you have anything special sewn into your dress. You may also want to get photos of your wedding veil if you are planning to wear one. If you enjoy and plan to wear a special perfume, make sure that you add it to a glass bottle if it’s not already in one. Glass will always photograph better than plastic and will provide a beautiful element of luxury to your detail photos.
Having all of these items set aside and ready for your photographer will save a lot of time on your wedding day! When I am photographing weddings, I will make sure to bring everything that I need to style those items – a flat light, ribbons, keys, stamps, wax seals, and ripped paper. I also recommend that you ask the florist to throw in a few extra flowers that can be used during the detail photos
When it comes to details for the groom, you will also want to start with the necessities. This would include the groom’s outfit: his suit coat, tie or bowtie, shoes, and ring. Other outfit details could include a watch, cuff links, cologne, and any other small detail items that might be special or important to capture in photos.
Along with the bride and groom’s items, there are also other details that you will want to consider adding to your Wedding Day Details checklist. One of those important details that you don’t want to miss is all of the floral arrangements! The bridal bouquet, boutonnieres, bridesmaids bouquets, centerpieces, etc. Anything that includes flowers and is a special part of the wedding day will be important to capture in photos for your wedding album!
If the bride and groom are exchanging gifts, you will definitely want to have those ready for your photographer to capture on camera! If you have any small items or gifts that are given to the bridal party, like whiskey or shot glasses for the groomsmen or little purses for the bridesmaids, ask your bridal party to bring some of those to include in photos on your wedding day.
Are you feeling more prepared with your Wedding Day Details checklist yet?! These are just some of the main things that you want to think about before your wedding day and have ready the day of for your photographer. It might seem silly to have photos of the small details, but it really pulls your entire wedding album together and helps to tell the story of the day!
